FSSAI registration and licence: which one do you need?
Basic registration versus state and central licences, who needs which, and how to apply on FoSCoS.
Three levels
- Basic registration: small food businesses with turnover up to ₹12 lakh
- State licence: turnover from ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore
- Central licence: turnover above ₹20 crore, importers, exporters, and businesses operating in several states
Documents
- Photo ID and address proof of the owner or partners
- Proof of the premises (rent agreement or ownership)
- List of food products or categories
- For licences: layout plan, equipment list, water test report and a food safety management plan
Keeping it valid
Licences are valid for 1 to 5 years, as you choose. Most manufacturers and some other licence holders file an annual return.
